OUR TABLE.

You don’t really know a country
until you’ve tasted it.

Olive oil pressed from trees older than the house beside them, by a family that has picked them for generations. Pasta rolled by a nonna who never once used a recipe. Fish that was still swimming in the Adriatic this morning. Homemade noodles in an Alpine hut, made from milk and butter of the cows grazing outside the window. This is food with a memory, passed from hand to hand for centuries.

And the wine. Italy’s legendary hills, of course. But also Austria’s wine roads, with bottles the world hardly knows yet. Hungary’s golden Tokaji, once poured for kings. Croatia’s wines, grown between stone and sea. Add truffle hunting in the forest, a self-drive along the wine roads, street food where the locals queue, and sweets born in the very town where you’re eating them. In every place, we tell you what truly matters, and where to find it.

The best part? On this journey, everything is calorie-free. Your suitcase won’t be. You’ll fly home with bottles and olive oil instead of fridge magnets.

Food & wine journeys

Come hungry.
Leave happy.

Some travel for the sights. We travel for the table, and the stories that come with every plate and every glass.

The table

Kitchens the world talks about

Family recipes, mountain huts and little trattorias where grandmother still rules the kitchen. The famous dishes, and the ones only locals know.

The cellar

Wines you know, and wines you’ll never forget

Cellars where the winemaker pours for you himself, and bottles you’ll want to carry home, wrapped carefully between your clothes.

The people

Real hands, real stories

Truffle hunters, olive growers, farmers and cheesemakers. The people behind the flavours, the ones we know and trust.

Tell us what makes your mouth water. We’ll plan the whole journey around your table.

The old town of Salzburg with the fortress above the river Salzach City break · Salzburg
A peek at your Salzburg day
  • Breakfast at Café Tomaselli, Austria’s oldest coffee house, since 1700
  • The Glockenspiel rings, then a 500-year-old organ roars from the fortress
  • Stone mugs and your own picnic at the monks’ brewery, since 1621

Salzburg, played your way.

The salt made it rich, the archbishops made it beautiful, and a boy born at Getreidegasse 9 in 1756 made it immortal. Small enough to walk, deep enough to keep surprising you.

  • In the car-free old town or a quiet street away, the right bed for your style
  • Every sight in one day, or one long coffee: we plan your pace
  • Mozart, the Sound of Music and the original Mozartkugel, made by the Fürst family since 1890
Nobody tells youDinner at the Stiftskeller St. Peter, first mentioned in the year 803. You eat under the rock of the Mönchsberg, where guests have been served for twelve centuries.

Schönbrunn Palace and its great parterre garden in Vienna City break · Vienna
A peek at your Vienna day
  • Schönbrunn before the crowds, then the view from the Gloriette
  • A grand coffee house, a Fiaker with rum and a slice of Sachertorte
  • A concert in the city of Mozart and Strauss, or wine at a Heuriger

Vienna, in three-quarter time.

An empire’s palace, the world’s music and a coffee that takes all afternoon. In the Mirror Room of Schönbrunn, a six-year-old Mozart played for Empress Maria Theresa. Here, the music still plays every single night.

  • Inside the Ring or a quiet Biedermeier lane, the right bed for your style
  • The State Opera, the Golden Hall of the Musikverein and concerts on every corner
  • Coffee houses, the Naschmarkt and Heurigen in Vienna’s own vineyards
Nobody tells youVienna grows its own wine. When a bundle of fir twigs hangs above a Heuriger door, it’s open, just as Emperor Joseph II allowed in 1784. A jug of white wine, and the lights of the city below.

Marienplatz and the New Town Hall in the heart of Munich City break · Munich
A peek at your Munich day
  • The Glockenspiel on Marienplatz: knights, a royal wedding and the coopers’ dance
  • Lunch at the Viktualienmarkt, then the river surfers in the English Garden
  • A Maß at the Hofbräuhaus, brewing since 1589, with the brass band playing

Munich, the art of taking it easy.

The Bavarian capital wears its crown lightly. Royal palaces, world-class art and a beer culture older than most countries, yet nobody here is in a hurry. Surfers ride a wave in the middle of the city, and every good day ends in a beer garden.

  • By Marienplatz or in leafy Schwabing, the right bed for your style
  • The Residenz and great museums, or a park bigger than New York’s Central Park
  • Oktoberfest, born from a royal wedding in 1810, and FC Bayern at the glowing Allianz Arena
Nobody tells youInside the Frauenkirche, look down by the entrance: a dark footprint in the stone. Legend says the devil stamped there in joy, because he couldn’t see a single window. Stand on it yourself, and you’ll see why.

A peaceful summer day on the Ljubljanica River in Ljubljana, Slovenia City break · Ljubljana
A peek at your Ljubljana day
  • Coffee by the river, then over the Triple Bridge into the old town
  • The market, a Carniolan sausage and štruklji, the Slovenian way
  • The funicular up to the castle, dinner in the Archer’s Tower

Ljubljana, a capital without the stress.

No traffic in the old town, cafés along a green river, and dragons guarding the bridges. Ljubljana is small, kind and slow in the best way. Here, a city break finally feels like a break.

  • Right by the river or a quiet street near Tivoli Park, the right bed for your style
  • Plečnik’s bridges, the Dragon Bridge and a boat ride along the Ljubljanica
  • Štruklji, potica and the Friday Open Kitchen, the city’s open-air food market
Nobody tells youLook where the statue of the poet Prešeren is gazing. Across the square, on a house wall, is the face of Julija, the woman he loved all his life and never won. Two hundred years later, he’s still looking at her.

The Hungarian Parliament glowing gold at blue hour above the Danube in Budapest City break · Budapest
A peek at your Budapest day
  • Fisherman’s Bastion and its seven towers, with Pest across the river
  • Dobos torte in a grand old café, where time stopped around 1900
  • On the Danube at blue hour, as the Parliament turns to gold

Budapest, Europe’s most breathtaking secret.

Yes, the Parliament is as magnificent as it looks. It rises exactly 96 metres, for the year 896, when the Hungarians first came to this land, and keeps the Holy Crown beneath its dome. It is the pride of a nation that has lived through hard centuries and never lost its dignity.

But it’s only the beginning. Even if you’ve seen Paris, Vienna and Prague, Budapest will still take your breath away.

  • Pest by the river or the quiet hills of Buda, the right bed for your style
  • Inside the Parliament, with 40 kg of gold leaf: we tell you to book well in advance
  • Thermal baths, lángos, Tokaji wine and flat streets made for cycling
  • Hot summers, often above 30°C: we plan the river and the baths for the warmest hours
Nobody tells youThe hill above the river carries the name of Bishop Gellért, who, legend says, was rolled down it in a barrel in 1046. For centuries, people believed witches gathered up there at night. Today you climb it for the most beautiful view of the city.

Our summer, your way

Six places we’d take our own family, and the little things only locals know about them.

Glacier viewing platform on the Kitzsteinhorn above KaprunKitzsteinhorn glacier

Snowballs at breakfast, swimming by lunch.

Up to 3,000 metres, snow under your feet in July, then back down to the lake for the afternoon. The kind of day you’ll be telling people about for years.

Local secretGo up the glacier first thing. Clouds like to build after noon, and the morning view from the Top of Salzburg platform is the one you want.
Plan my glacier day
The Grossglockner High Alpine Road winding through the Austrian AlpsGrossglockner

36 bends, one glacier and a marmot who wants your carrot.

Built by hand in the 1930s, through the toughest years Austria knew. Opened in 1935, and still the most beautiful drive in the Alps.

Local secretPack a carrot. The marmots at Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe know the drill. Then take the cobbled side road up to the Edelweißspitze for the best view on the whole road.
Plan my drive
The Krimml Waterfalls in the Hohe Tauern National ParkKrimml Waterfalls

You’ll hear it before you see it.

380 metres of water in three drops, the highest falls in Austria. The trail climbs right beside the falls, close enough to feel the spray on your face.

Local secretWalk it if you can, at least to the first viewpoints. That’s where you really feel it. Not up for the climb? The lower falls are close to the bottom, and the water world museum there shows you everything without the uphill.
Take me there
Hallstatt Skywalk viewing platform above the lakeHallstatt

So pretty, China built a copy.

True story. But nothing beats the original: 7,000 years of salt, a lake like a mirror and the Skywalk hanging above it all.

Local secretBe there before 9 or after 5, when the day buses have gone. Come by train and take the little ferry across the lake. That’s how Hallstatt should first appear.
See the original
Mirabell Gardens with the Hohensalzburg Fortress in SalzburgSalzburg

Mozart, gardens and a hundred terraces.

Baroque squares, Mirabell’s flowers, the fortress on the hill and more cafés than you have days. Sachertorte by the river, Salzburger Nockerl for two. Tradition you can taste.

Local secretSkip the tourist beer halls. Go to Augustiner Bräu in Mülln: monks’ beer poured from wooden barrels into stone mugs, under old chestnut trees. Pure Salzburg.
Add Salzburg to my trip
Dinner by the lake in Zell am See at sunsetFood & stay

Dinner by the lake. Then dessert. Obviously.

Kasnocken in a cast-iron pan, fresh lake fish, a glass of Austrian white as the sun goes down. Hosts who remember your name. This is how we live.

Local secretAsk about the guest summer card when you book. Many hotels here include it: cable cars, lake boats and pools, all covered. We know which ones.
