Some places look like a dream. We wake up in one.
Turquoise lakes held in the hands of mountains. Green so deep it looks painted. Villages where the church bell still tells the time, and the air is cool and clean even in the heart of summer. From the lakes of Zell am See and Kaprun to Salzburg, Mozart’s city, from Innsbruck under its peaks to the quiet water of the Salzkammergut and Hallstatt in the morning mist. This is SalzburgerLand and Tyrol. Some of the most beautiful land in Europe.
Here you hike to a hut and get a meal made the way it was made a hundred years ago. You take a boat across a lake as still as glass. You stand on a glacier in July. And every evening the mountains turn pink, as if they were showing off just for you.
We live right in the middle of it. We never stop being grateful for it. And we would love to share it with you, the way only locals can.
Zell am See–Kaprun · summer
- Into the lake before breakfast. The water is yours.
- Up the Schmittenhöhe from the town centre, peaks on every side.
- Snow under your feet on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier. In July.
One lake. Two mountains. Snow in July.
Turquoise water at your feet, a glacier above your head, and a little town in between that looks like it was made for postcards. Walk the promenade around the lake, take a cable car straight from the centre and watch the peaks line up one after another. In the afternoon, stand in real snow at 3,000 metres, then come down for a schnitzel on a terrace as the sun goes down over the water. We show you all of it, in the right order, at the right time.

- The lake turns gold. Nobody else is awake. Just breathe.
- A rowing boat to nowhere. Oars down, sun on your face.
- Warm water at the hotel, the peaks going pink outside.
Switch off. Breathe. Just you and the lake.
No plan. No alarm. No list. Just you, the water and the mountains standing quietly around you. Watch the sun come up over the lake with a coffee in your hands. Row out until the town is small. Let lunch on a terrace turn slowly into the afternoon. Then warm water and a long, deep sleep. This isn’t rest as a reward. This is rest as the whole point. Day excursion · Hallstatt
- China built a full replica of Hallstatt. The original is still better.
- Char and whitefish from the lake, on your plate by lunch.
- The crowds. We bring you in before the buses arrive.
Hallstatt. Yes, that one.
You’ve seen it. On a screensaver, on a puzzle, on half the internet. People say it inspired a Disney kingdom. China liked it so much they built a copy. But nothing prepares you for standing here: the church spire, the wooden houses stacked on the rock, the lake so still it holds the whole village upside down. Come early, while it’s quiet. Walk the lanes, take the boat across, then sit down by the water to fish that swam in this lake this morning.

Drive the Grossglockner road to the glacier and stand in front of it. Taste cheese at a working Alpine dairy, made from what grows on these hills. Wake up on Lake Zell, glacier peaks reflected outside your window. Then the lakes come one by one. A boat to St. Wolfgang and the famous White Horse Inn on the shore. Mondsee and its golden basilica. Traunsee, where a castle stands in the water. And Hallstatt, where lunch is char or whitefish from the lake in front of you. Every lake its own colour, its own mood, its own story.

- The gondola up first. Save your legs for the good part.
- At the lake, the town, the glacier. All from one trail.
- A hut lunch made from the farm you just walked past.
Go up. Look down. Say wow.
The gondola does the hard part. Then the mountain is yours. Walk a ridge with the whole valley below, the lake shining like a coin. Or take a bike and fly down through meadows and forest back to the valley floor. Kids run ahead, cowbells ring, and every bend gives you another view you’ll want to show someone. Lunch at a hut, dinner earned, sleep like a stone. Some days you’ll go further than planned. Some days you won’t move at all. Both are the point.

Salzburg · summer
- In the Mirabell Gardens, where The Sound of Music sang Do-Re-Mi.
- At Hellbrunn’s trick fountains, surprising guests for 400 years.
- Your own beer from a stone mug at the monks’ brewery in Mülln.
Salzburg. A summer in a song.
Mozart was born in a yellow house on the Getreidegasse, and the city never stopped making music. In summer the Festival fills every hall, street musicians play under the archways, and the fortress watches over it all from the hill. Walk the gardens in bloom, ride the funicular up for the view, then find a beer garden under the chestnut trees. We know the concert worth booking, the table worth waiting for and the hour when the old town is yours.

3 days · Salzburg & Hallstatt
- Salzburg, the city that salt paid for. Baroque, golden, rich.
- Into the oldest salt mine in the world. Miners’ slides included.
- The Skywalk, 360 metres above Hallstatt, then the lake.
Born from salt.
Long before Mozart, there was salt. For 7,000 years people have dug it out of this mountain, and it made this region rich. It even gave Salzburg its name: the salt castle. White gold floated down the river and came back as palaces, churches and domes. Start in Salzburg, then go deep into the mountain where it all began, slide down the miners’ wooden slides, and come out to a view that explains everything. Salt built this place. You’ll taste it in every story.

- The Golden Roof. 2,657 gilded tiles, built for an emperor.
- From the old town to 2,256 metres in about 20 minutes.
- Swarovski Crystal Worlds, a giant’s head full of light.
Espresso in town. Summit by lunch.
Few cities let you do this. Coffee under the Golden Roof, then a funicular and two cable cars, and twenty minutes later you’re standing on a mountain top, the whole city a toy town below. Back down, walk the colourful houses along the Inn, climb the ski jump tower for the view, and finish with a Tyrolean dinner, music and all. Two days, and you’ll understand why people who come here once keep coming back.

- Out early, mist still in the valley, only you on the trail.
- A hut, a bench, a plate of Kaspressknödel. Earned.

Tyrol. Not from the window. From inside.

You tell us your level once, and every day is already shaped around it. The route, the pace, the hut worth the detour and the one to skip. - Kufstein’s fortress organ plays at noon. You hear it across town.

Tyrol by road. Every bend a postcard.

- Strudel dough so thin you can read a newspaper through it.
- Salzburger Nockerl, three golden peaks for the city’s three hills.
- Your own Mozart chocolate, the sweet Salzburg has made since 1890.
Flour on your hands.

Eggs whipped into a Salzburger Nockerl that rises like the mountains outside. Or chocolate, pistachio and marzipan rolled into your own Mozart sweet. No script, no show. Just someone who has made this a thousand times, showing you how, then letting you get it wrong until you get it right. You leave with a skill, not just a souvenir.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many days do I need for the Austrian Alps in summer?
Three nights give you one valley properly: a lake, a peak, a hut lunch. Five to seven nights let you combine two regions, for example Zell am See with the Salzkammergut lakes, or Salzburg with Tyrol. Tell us how many days you have, and we’ll tell you honestly what fits and what doesn’t.
What is a summer guest card, and will I get one?
In many Alpine regions, like Zell am See–Kaprun, Saalbach or Innsbruck, partner hotels give you a free summer card for your stay. Depending on the region it can include cable cars, lake boats, buses, swimming pools and museums. It can be worth a lot of money over a week. Not every hotel offers it, and the cards are different in every valley. That’s exactly why we check it for you and point you to hotels where it’s included.
Can I do it without a car?
Yes. Trains connect Salzburg, Innsbruck and Zell am See, and local buses reach most valleys. Many summer cards include those buses. For lakes and passes that are harder to reach, we show you the easiest way to get there, transfer or driver included. You never have to work out a timetable alone.
When is the best time to visit in summer?
June is fresh and green, with fewer people and waterfalls at their strongest. July and August are warmest, perfect for swimming in the lakes, and also the busiest, so good hotels book up early. September is golden, calm and still warm for hiking. High mountain roads like the Grossglockner usually open from late spring to autumn, depending on snow.
I’m not a hiker. Is the Alps in summer still for me?
Absolutely. Cable cars take you to the top without a single step uphill. Lakes, boat trips, spas, Salzburg, Innsbruck, salt mines, castles and long lunches with a view. We plan the days around what you enjoy, not around what a brochure thinks you should do.
What if it rains?
It’s the mountains, so it can. Every plan we make has a plan B: a salt mine deep inside the mountain, Swarovski Crystal Worlds, a thermal spa, a gorge walk that’s even more dramatic in the rain, or a day in Salzburg. You never lose a good day to a bad forecast.
Is it good for families with children?
It’s one of the best places in Europe for it. Safe lakes, short hikes to huts with playgrounds, adventure parks on the mountain, cable cars kids love, and family hotels with pools and kids’ clubs. Tell us the ages, and we’ll match hotels and activities to them.
Can I swim in the lakes?
Yes, and you should. The water is famously clean and clear. In high summer the bigger lakes often reach the low to mid twenties in °C, warm enough for a long swim. Many lakes have bathing areas, and some hotels have their own private beach. We’ll tell you which ones are worth it.
What does Travel Sorted cost?
It depends on how much you’d like us to plan. Already booked your flights and hotel, and just want to make the most of your days? A personal itinerary starts from €79. Want the whole trip sorted, with several regions, cities, transfers and stays? Tell us what you need and we’ll send you a fixed price before you commit. Always clear upfront, no surprises.
What do I book myself?
That’s your freedom. We do the hard part: we find the right places, check the prices and put it all into one clear plan with direct booking links. Then the decision is yours. Nobody pushes you into anything, and every booking is in your own name. No middleman, no surprises, no guessing. And if anything isn’t clear, you’ll hear from us, not from a call centre.
How quickly will I hear from you?
Within 24 hours, from a real local, not a bot. Usually much faster.
